GAITHERSBURG, Md.– The annual county track championships took place on Wednesday, May 9 at Watkins Mill High School.

Last year, Ryan Lockette and Abigail Green won their respective mile and 2 mile events and Raynard Bell and Taylor Wright both won both the 100m and 200m races.

This year Northwest popped up with wins all over the board, including both 100 meter dashes, the girl’s 200, and multiple field events.

Northwood also did well, particularly in mid-distance events.

Here are the winners of the events:

Men’s:
100m- The easy favorite for the 100m, Anthony Woods Jr. from Northwest High School, ran a 10.92 at the county championship this year. Woods also won first in the long jump, with a 21’5” leap. Woods has competed in the county championships since his freshman year, when he made finals with an 11.5.

200m- This year’s winner was Avery Reeves, a senior at Richard Montgomery. Reeves ran his personal record at the meet, recording a 22.1. Reeves also competed in the 4x100m relay and the 100m, earning third place in the latter.

800m- The half mile was won by Eldon Phillips this year, with a time of 1:55:84. This senior from Northwood has an impressive resume already. Phillips won the same event during indoor county championships in January, and placed third at county championships exactly one year before Wednesday.

1600 & 200m- The first place winner of the mile and two mile this year was Ryan Lockett, who set his own season records at both events.
