SILVER SPRING, Md.– Olney’s 37th annual Olney Days celebration will be held this weekend, April 27 through April 29.
“The purpose of Olney days is to celebrate the community,” said Barbara Falcigno, director of the Olney Civic Fund. “It brings people together — neighbors, friends, businesses — to interact in a fun, family-oriented way.”
This year’s Olney Days will include a movie night, fundraiser bike ride, car and truck show, carnival games, parade, recycling event, community clean-up opportunities and more.
The popular Rock the Lot Block Party and Fun Fair and Fireworks events from past years’ Olney Days have been merged into a new event called Party in the Park, which will take place on April 28 from 3 p.m. to dark at Olney Manor Park.
Party in the Park will include eating contests, live music by local bands, games and contests for kids of all ages, beer and wine, fireworks and other family-friendly activities.
“There’s something for everybody… we think that it’s going to be a fabulous event, right now the weather looks like a great forecast,” said Falcigno.
The event will also help to fundraise for the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, youth leadership non-profit Project Change and the Olney Civic Fund.
“[Olney Days is] completely run by volunteers, and all the bills are paid thanks to donations from individuals and businesses. That shows to me again how the community enjoys having an annual time to get together and just have fun,” said Falcigno.
