COLLEGE PARK, Md.– An adult male was reported missing from a group home in the 6300 block of Greentree Road in Bethesda around 9:00 p.m. on Monday.
Montgomery County Police were dispatched around 10:45 p.m. and joined staff from the group home in searching for the missing man, who was eventually found on the Union Arch Bridge at 7934 MacArthur Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they discovered that the man had climbed the safety fence on the bridge and was preparing to jump into traffic below.
One of the officers was able to grab him, preventing him from jumping. Additional officers assisted and the man was pulled to safety before being transported to a local hospital for a full evaluation, according to Montgomery County Police.
“I am truly thankful that the young man will be able to get the help that he needs,” said Commander Gagen of the 2nd District. “I couldn’t be more proud of our officers’ actions.”
