WASHINGTON– The Washington Nationals hope to see the same success this season as the Washington Capitals after their Stanley Cup victory.
The Nat are currently ranked second in the eastern division of the National League only two games behind the Atlanta Braves. They’re in a good spot with their key hitters hitting strong throughout the games this year.
The Nationals were also able to gain their offensive spark back during their game on Saturday vs. the San Francisco Giants when Right fielder Adam Eaton went one for four at bat getting hit with a pitch and scoring two runs.
During the Nationals game on Sunday June 10, their key hitter and starting outfielder Bryce Harper was hit with a pitch and didn’t return to the game. Harper was beamed with the ball right in the arm.
Their star player is not all that the Nationals need to succeed, however.
The Nats have a strong pitcher that has only played in 12 games this season but is 10-2. They also have their strong hitter in Ryan Zimmerman with 25 hits and 11 runs.
“I think this is their year,” said long time nationals fan Bill Young. “If the Caps can do it then we can definitely do it. I have no doubt in my mind that they can deliver and keep on riding the wave that the Caps started.”
In order for the nationals to make the playoffs this year, they need to place in the top five teams in the National League.
Currently fifth in the National league, the Nats would need to play for the wild card spot in the playoffs.
Given the Nationals’ talent and extra motivation to win another championship for Washington, this year could be theirs.
